Producer Dil Raju recently spoke about the failure of Ramayya Vasthavayya, a film directed by Harish Shankar and starring Jr. NTR. The film which featured Shruti Haasan and Samantha as the female leads was expected to be a hit but did not perform well at the box office.

Harish Shankar had previously delivered two consecutive blockbusters raising expectations for Ramayya Vasthavayya. The movie followed a typical revenge drama storyline where the hero with a tragic past, infiltrates the villain’s house by getting close to the heroine and ultimately takes revenge. Despite this formula, the film failed to impress audiences.

In a recent interview, Dil Raju shared insights into what went wrong. He said, “Ramayya Vasthavayya was a failure. After the film’s release Harish and I met at 2 PM then we went to the hero’s place and sat down at 3 PM. We discussed for six hours why the movie failed and what mistakes we made.”

He explained that analyzing failures is crucial for avoiding similar mistakes in future projects. “Once we realized it was a flop, we couldn’t immediately go out and announce that our movie had failed. We had to understand the reasons first,” he added.

Dil Raju also said that it is a common industry practice where even flop films are promoted as hits to attract audiences and help distributors recover their investments. This strategy is still followed today.

Meanwhile, Jr. NTR is busy with his upcoming film directed by Prashanth Neel while Dil Raju recently tasted success with his Sankranti release.
