A student from the University of Hyderabad recently complained about singer Chinmayi Sripada, alleging that she made derogatory comments about India in response to senior actress Annapurna. The modus operandi involved luring a city resident into applying for the dealership. The fraudsters, posing as company employees, sent fake details and registration forms via email and WhatsApp, demanding various fees. The victim paid Rs.7.5 lakh before realizing the deception. The cybercrime police successfully apprehended the culprits, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against online fraud.

Chinmayi Sripaada, a singer, expressed strong criticism after seeing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Congress’s P Chidambaram, and actor Kamal Haasan in a picture with Vairamuthu, a Tamil lyricist accused by her of sexual harassment.

In 2019, a year after Sripaada accused Vairamuthu of sexual harassment, she criticized the media for staying quiet about the matter. In June of the same year, the respected singer mentioned that she held multiple individuals accountable for protecting Vairamuthu.

“I’m holding so many people responsible for saving Vairamuthu. There are a few people in DMK who tried to help me, but in the end, their hands are also tied,” she said.

Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu said he was ”returning” the award, in effect he was declining the honour, saying he did not want the jury to face embarrassment and blamed ”vendetta” behind the decision to reconsider the award by the ONV Cultural Academy. The award was instituted in memory of Jnanpith laureate Malayalam poet late ONV Kurup and the song writer has been facing “MeToo” charges.

He requested that the cash prize of Rs three lakh announced by the academy be given to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Public Relief fund and announced his own contribution of Rs two lakh towards the same, as a “token” of his love for Kerala and its people. “Due to the interference of those with vendetta the award has been subject to reconsideration is what I have come to know.” Wondering if the protests were aimed at “belittling” him and Kurup, Vairamuthu said he wanted to make sure that the “scholarly jury should not be pushed to embarrassment.”
