Jayaprada, a well-known actress and politician, has faced a setback from the Egmore Court in Chennai. She has been given a 6-month jail term and a fine of Rs 5,000 for a case that goes back many years. Her partners in business, Ram Kumar and Raja Babu, also received the same punishment.
The case revolves around a movie theater Jayaprada and her partners owned in Chennai’s Rayapeta area. After the theater faced financial difficulties and closed down a few years ago, they didn’t pay back the money they had deducted from their staff’s salaries for Employee State Insurance (ESI). The theater staff went to court, taking action against Jayaprada, her partners, and the State Insurance Corporation.
As a result, the Labour Government Insurance Corporation took legal action against Jayaprada, Ram Kumar, and Raja Babu in the Egmore Magistrate Court.
Despite Jayaprada’s promise to settle the dues and her appeal to dismiss the case, the court decided to sentence her, along with her partners, to 6 months in jail and a fine of Rs 5,000.
