The death of father-son duo Jayaraj and Bennicks in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu has sparked furore over social media against police brutality seeking justice for them. Netizens including celebrities have trend the hashtags #JusticeForJayarajAndBennix and #JusticeForJayarajAndFenix and called out action against the police officials who are involved in the case.
As per reports, Jayaraj and his son were arrested for ‘violating’ lockdown norms. The duo was taken to custody and were reportedly sexually harassed by the officials. The duo died at a hospital in Kovilpatti on June 23. Tamil Nadu chief minister Edapadi K Palanisamy have suspended the two policeman involved in the case, while inspector of Sathankulam station has been put under waiting. With the outbreak over justice of the deceased, celebrities from Samantha to Kajal Aggarwal among others and Bollywood people have also tweeted over the issue.
Sharing a picture of the duo, Samantha wrote, “Police brutality needs to stop..this is inhumane and will only result in more loss of faith in the system that is meany to protect (sic).” Meanwhile, Kajal Aggarwal sharing the video of singer-host Suchitra, wrote, “I couldn’t even listen to this whole video. Grotesque and gruesome. The cops involved need a harsher punishment than just a transfer (sic).”
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra also tweeted, “Reeling from what I’m hearing. Absolutely stunned sad and angry. No human being deserves such brutality whatever be their crime. The guilty must not be allowed to go unpunished. We need facts. I cannot even begin to imagine what the family must be going through. Sending strength and prayers. We need to use our collective voices to seek #JusticeForJayarajandBennicks.”
