Chennai Story: Samantha Out, Sruthi Haasan In

In November 2021, Samantha Ruth Prabhu shared her plans to collaborate with director Philip John for an Indo-British film based on Timeri N Murari’s novel. However, Shruti Haasan has now taken the lead role alongside Viveik Kalra in the rom-com titled “Chennai Story,” set in Wales and India. Anu, played by Shruti, is a spirited private detective, and the movie, predominantly in English, explores themes of self-expression and acceptance.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Shruti, a Chennai native, recently shared the special connection she feels to the story that showcases the diversity of her city. Produced by Sunitha Tati of Guru Films and backed by the British Film Institute’s UK Global Screen Fund, Shruti looks forward to collaborating with Philip and believes in telling rooted stories through international ventures.

“The Arrangements of Love” follows a bisexual Tamil woman running a detective agency, helping a Welsh-Indian man in search of his estranged father. Samantha had initially auditioned for Anu’s role but, on a break from work due to her auto-immune condition, the makers decided to proceed with Shruti.

Shruti, after her success in “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire,” continues her cinematic journey, starring in the Indo-UK co-production “Chennai Story.” Alongside her work in Telugu and Hindi-Telugu projects, rumors suggest a potential collaboration with Yash in the Kannada film “Toxic.”

In addition to being part of the British psychological thriller “The Eye,” Shruti’s upcoming film boasts an impressive cast, including British star Viveik Kalra, Kevin Hart, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jean Reno, and Sam Worthington. Co-produced by Guru Films, Ripple World Pictures, and ie ie Productions, the film promises to explore love, self-expression, and acceptance, guided by cinematographer Graham Frake and production designer Ciaran Thompson.
