Currency Ban Affects TFI

The centre’s bold decision of demonetizing the 500 and 1000 rupee currency has affected many business industries. It has also affected the revenue of the film industries. Especially in Tollywood, both the new releases and the already running films have been getting low collections since last three days.

Naga Chaitanya’s latest release Saahasam Swaasaga Saagipo’s first collections were not as expected, thanks to the ban on currency. Though the film got a hit talk, people are not queueing up in the theaters due to the lack of lesser denomination votes.

Most of the theater revenue comes from the box office booking, not online booking. Especially in semi-urban and rural areas, online booking is very less used and people usually stand in line to buy the tickets. As the 500 and 1000 notes are no more valid now and most of the people are still troubling to exchange the notes in banks, people are not showing any interest to go to films at this point of time. That is the reason why many films which were supposed to release this weekend are postponed by a week or two. Even many shootings have come to halt. On the whole, this week has turned out be a big disappointment for Telugu film industry in terms of the revenue.
