Deepika Padukone opens up on her controversial relationship

Deepika Padukone has spoken out after facing a lot of criticism regarding her appearance on the eighth season of Karan Johar’s show, Koffee With Karan. The episode, featuring her and her husband Ranveer Singh, stirred up controversy when she mentioned dating others while in a relationship with Ranveer.

Today marks their fifth wedding anniversary. After keeping their engagement secret for three years, they got married in Italy on November 14 in a private ceremony. Despite their happy life together, their appearance on KWK 8 turned sour due to the backlash she received for her candidness.

In a recent interview for a prestigious magazine, Deepika Padukone addressed handling criticism on social media. She emphasized her willingness to express herself honestly and take responsibility for her mistakes, stating that she’s unafraid to apologize.

It’s important to note that her revelation about dating others while committed to Ranveer triggered a wave of memes and discussions on social media.

Deepika further shared that being outspoken is her nature: she stands by her beliefs even if they differ from others in the room. She also tackled the nepotism debate, acknowledging its existence in the industry. She, as an outsider herself, mentioned the challenges faced by individuals entering fields not associated with their family backgrounds.

Talking about nepotism, citing herself as an example, Deepika Padukone said that when you are an outsider 15 or 20 years ago, there’s no other option for them. She adds that it’s an uphill task for any individual trying to make a mark in a field or profession that their parents don’t come from. The fact that people have started to articulate things like nepotism is a new trend. It existed then, it exists now and it will continue to exist.
