Sir movie review

Dhanush is making his debut in Telugu with the film Sir ( Vaathi in Tamil) which has been directed by Venky Atluri. The film has been released today and read on to see if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Balu (Dhanush) is a junior lecturer at Tripathi Educational Institute (TEI). The college is run by Tripathi (Samuthirakani). One fine day, he is sent to Siripuram to teach the kids in the government colleges in that area. Balu takes up the task and makes sure that everyone from the government colleges gets a hundred percent result along with a fellow teacher played by Samyuktha Menon. Well, this does not go well with Tripathi and he weaves a war against Balu. How does Balu handle the situation, is the rest of the story?

Performances:

Dhanush leads from the front and pours life into the character of a lecturer. The way he acts in all the emotional scenes is superb. His transformation, Telugu diction, and the way he holds the screen were very good. Some scenes between him and the students were amazing. Samyktha is pretty as the teacher and ably supports Dhanush in the film. Samutrakani is the main villain and he is superb. He brings a lot of depth to the film and his scenes with Dhanush are nice. Hyper Aadi was also very good.

SIR Movie Review & Rating

Analysis

Sir has a very predictable plot of a teacher going against the odds to give the best education to the students. This plot is nicely woven by Venky Atluri into the narrative. As he has got an actor like Dhanush, he has made sure that he writes solid emotional scenes and gives a good message. In this department, Sir scores good marks.

But in all this, he has left out the main conflict point. The fight between Dhanush and Samutrakani is not that great. The director should have added more masala to this angle and created good confrontational scenes. Rather, he focuses on the emotions which get boring after a while. But Dhanush takes us over the finishing line.

Sir has amazing music by GV Prakash. Every song sounds so well and has been shot well also. The camera work, visuals, and small-town setup are showcased in a beautiful manner by the director. The social message of education is a must and is nicely told in the film. But it also gets preachy after a while. The film is a serious drama and has no scope for entertainment.

The manner in which Venky Atluri brings out the pain the government colleges go through and how the rich educational institutions take things for granted and demand the situation is nicely told. Sir has a predictable premise and nothing new to showcase. But Dhanush makes sure that his performance lifts the film and makes it at least watchable.

Bottom Line – Routine story with good emotions and a message

SIR Movie Rating: 2.75
