Game Changer vs Pushpa 2 vs Devara: Only one film sees profit

Tollywood has been delivering many pan-India movies. It is leading the industry in producing high-budget films. However, the question is how profitable these projects are.

Let us look at three recent pan-India films. Devara, starring Jr. NTR, earned $6.07 million in North America. Pushpa 2, featuring Allu Arjun collected $15 million after its December release. Ram Charan’s Game Changer made only $2 million in the same region.

At first glance, Pushpa 2 seems highly successful with its $15 million collection. But due to high acquisition costs, distributors made no profit. Game Changer performed poorly and turned out to be a financial disaster.

Among the three films, only Devara brought profits to its buyers. It became the only movie in this list to achieve financial success.

Devara: Part 1 is written and directed by Koratala Siva. The film is produced by Yuvasudha Arts and N. T. R. Arts. The film stars Jr NTR in dual roles alongside Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor who made their Tollywood debut with this film. The film also has Prakash Raj, Srikanth and Shine Tom Chacko. It is the first part of a planned duology and marks the Telugu cinema debut of Kapoor. The film follows Devara, chieftain of a coastal village who feuds with his counterpart Bhaira over arms smuggling through the Red Sea

Meanwhile, Tollywood continues to dominate the pan-India segment with its large-scale productions. However, profitability remains a challenge for most high-budget projects.
