Happy Birthday Movie Review

Lavanya Tripathi has been in the industry for the last ten years. She is for the first time doing a female oriented comedy called Happy Birthday. Read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Gun culture is allowed in India and this gives a politician(Vennela Kishore) a chance to make a big deal with a foreign country. This deal is set up in the Ritz hotel where Happy played by Lavanya goes there. But she gets stuck in a deep mess filled with multiple crazy people. How she makes use of this situation to be on a winning side is the story of Happy Birthday.

Performances

Lavanya Tripathi is seen in a double role for the first time in her career and she nails it. Not only does she look hot but she also plays two different characters quite energetically. Vennela Kishore is hilarious as the cunning politician and his scene with Gundu Sudharshan are a riot.

But the real hero of the movie is comedian Satya. His comedy angle, looks and especially his body language and dialogue delivery is just amazing and keeps the audience engaged for the most part. Viva Harsha and his track evokes some laughs.

What’s Good

Vennela Kishore comedy
Comedian Satya
Lavanya’s role

What’s Bad

Excess runtime
Silly situations
Lack of seriousness

Analysis

The film is set up in a mad world which lacks any seriousness and that is fine. But for the audience to ignore this, the narration and comedy should be eye grabbing. But that does not happen at all as the jokes cracked are lame and do not tickle your funny bone at all.

The film is close to three hours and goes on and on. There is so much confusion created by director Ritesh Rana as his narration is jaded and lacks clarity. He has showcased Lavanya character in a superb manner though.

Music by Kaala Bhairava is disappointing and his BGM is also loud in so many areas. The visuals and costumes selected are quite good. There are some good scenes which evoke laughs but to add twists and engage the audience, the director adds too many tracks which do not click one bit.

A simple narration with breezy runtime would have made a world of difference to this film. But that not happen as Happy birthday does not give a happy feeling to the audience at all.

Bottom Line – Irritating comedy
