Suriya’s last film was an OTT outing. The same is the case with his new film Jai Bhim as well. It is out on Prime video and, read our review to know if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Two innocent tribals played by Manikandan and Lijomal Jose are forced to go to jail in a robbery case. They are brutally tortured before Manikandan escapes the prison. This is the time, Manikandan’s wife approaches a lawyer named Chandru(Suriya) to deal with the case. How he does that is the plot.

Performances

What attracts you to this film are the performances. Manikandan and Lijomal who play the tribals look and play their roles to the T. Their pain and issues are so well showcased by the director. Prakash Raj plays the cop’s role in a subdued manner.

The best part of the cast is Suriya who goes all out as the lawyer Chandru. He does not go overboard or make things visible what he is going through. He keeps his emotions within himself and gives a knockout performance.

Analysis

The film is about how lower caste people are suppressed by the cops and used for false cases. The story is also the same in this film and the only addition is Suriya playing the cop’s role.

The film is gritty and showcases the atrocities of the cops in a brutal manner. The police station investigation scenes give you panic as they are so brutal. All this is well showcased by the BGM, makeup, and camera work which is astonishing. The production design is also amazing from the 90’s look.

Gynanavel is the director of the film gets all the applause as he showcases the film in a manner that can be connected to one and all. Suriya and Rao Ramesh as the lawyers do so well that even if you ignore the low first half, things get so interesting with their entries. Watch it for them.

Bottom Line – Gritty and painful
