Telugu filmmaker Nag Ashwin is currently shooting ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. Ashwin shared insights at an event, disclosing that the movie unfolds during the Mahabharat era.
Post-production for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is in progress, aiming for a May 9 theatrical release. At a press conference, Ashwin explained the film’s title, saying, “Our film starts in Mahabharat and ends in 2898. It spans 6000 years of time. It’s called ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, keeping an Indian essence without resembling ‘Blade Runner’.”
He explained the timeframe further, saying, “Going back 6000 years from 2898 AD takes us to 3102 BC, believed to be when the last avatar of Krishna passed away.”
“We aimed to create unique Indian worlds without mimicking Blade Runner. The film releases on May 9, and I plan to explore OpenAI Sora soon,” he added.
Meawhile, the talk of the town is OpenAI Sora, with many internet users exploring its capabilities to create scenes and entire universes. When Nag Ashwin asked about the same, he mentioned that he hasn’t used the AI yet. Busy with the release of his film on May 9, he assured that he plans to “give it a try soon.” Explaining further, he stated, “For our film, we had to construct numerous sets, designs, and vehicles. The process involved ideation, conceptualization, building, prototyping, machinery, and aging. If I had used Sora, I wouldn’t need to go through all this; it could simply be a prompt without the need for VFX.” He went on to ponder, “I’m also considering whether, in the midst of this struggle, some magic might emerge. While we take months to perfect things, using a prompt might bring something new. If it’s as effortless as a prompt, is there something essential missing for a creator?”
Nag Ashwin’s remarks are spreading widely on social media, generating considerable excitement for the movie. With Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani in key roles, Vyjayanthi Movies is backing this major production. The much-anticipated film is set to release on May 9, 2024.
