Kuberaa: Plot to Budget, Cast and OTT Pressure
Kuberaa is a much-awaited pan-Indian Telugu movie directed by Sekhar Kammula. The film stars popular actor Dhanush, veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, and talented heroine Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. Kuberaa is set to release on June 20, 2025, and it is already creating a lot of buzz in the film industry.
The budget for Kuberaa is quite large. It was first planned at ₹90 crore, but it has gone up to nearly ₹120-130 crore. The main expenses were salaries for the lead cast and crew. Dhanush is charging ₹30 crore for his role, while Nagarjuna is getting ₹14 crore — his highest paycheck so far. A huge amount was also spent on production, as the team filmed in challenging locations in Mumbai’s slums, garbage dumps, and small alleys. The film was shot in a longer-than-usual schedule, adding to its overall cost.

Sekhar Kammula, who previously made love stories like Fidaa and Love Story, is trying a new style with Kuberaa— a social thriller. There are many risks in this. His shift from romance to thriller may not appeal to all his fans. Furthermore, the film’s length was originally more than 3 hours. It was cut down to 3 hours and 1 minute, but a lengthy film can sometimes affect viewership if the story fails to keep the audience engaged.
The producers were also under pressure from OTT platforms. An online platform, believed to be Amazon Prime Video, demanded a discount of ₹10 crore if the film missed its release deadline. There were disputes over the title, with another producer, Karmikonda Narendra, alleging that he already owns the title Kuberaa.
Despite these risks and obstacles, the makers are confident about their film. They believe Kuberaa will connect with a large audience across India. The strong story, powerful performances, and careful direction by Sekhar Kammula are expected to make this pan-Indian venture a huge success. All eyes are now on June 20, 2025, when Kuberaa finally hits the big screens.
