Namrata reveals Mahesh Babu movie she dislikes the most
Mahesh Babu and Namrata Shirodkar are one of the most admired couples in South Indian cinema. While Namrata rarely speaks about Mahesh’s films, she recently surprised everyone by revealing which of his movies she dislikes the most.
Mahesh Babu made his Tollywood debut in 1999 with Rajakumarudu which was a commercial success. However not all his films performed well at the box office. In 2000, Mahesh starred in Vamsi directed by B. Gopal, a filmmaker known for blockbuster hits like Samarasimha Reddy, Narasimha Naidu, and Indra. Since B. Gopal had a strong track record expectations were high for Vamsi.
The film featured Namrata Shirodkar as the female lead marking the beginning of their real-life love story. The movie was shot in exotic locations in New Zealand and Australia with a high budget. Despite the grand production, Vamsi failed to impress the audience.
The film’s screenplay and story did not resonate with viewers. Many felt that adding mass elements in the climax weakened the narrative. Even director B. Gopal later admitted that mistakes were made in the storytelling.
Namrata in an interview openly shared her thoughts: “Vamsi is the only film I didn’t like at all. It was a major flop in Mahesh’s career. But I love his movies like Murari, Athadu, and Pokiri.”
After Vamsi’s failure, Mahesh took time to analyze his choices. However, he bounced back strongly with Okkadu in 2003, which became a turning point in his career. Though Vamsi was a setback, it played a crucial role in Mahesh and Namrata’s personal journey as they eventually got married.
