Opinion: ZEE5 gambles by buying Solo Brathuku..

ZEE5 platform has procured the ‘Solo Brathuke So Better’ for around 33 crores. Amazon and Netflix are the most popular in the Telugu states and not many have subscribed to ZEE5. By buying this Sai Dharam Tej film, it is trying to gain more viewers but there is no guarantee that people will subscribe to this app just to watch Solo Brathuke So Betteru as the hero has a series of flops and his market is on an all-time low. The director is new too. Sai Dharam Tej’s film with Maruthi was a hit but he had no role in its success, it was Rao Ramesh all the way who shouldered the film.

Solo Brathuke so betterNow did ZEE5 make an intelligent move by buying the film for that many crores? Will it recover the money? As a plan to recover their investment, Zee network is said to be aiming to have an ATT release where it can be watched on pay-per-view basis and then follow it up with a theatrical release. Right now everything is vague, there is a talk of opening cinema halls but we have to see if people will flock or take risk to see a Sai Dharam Tej film in the midst of the pandemic. We have to take film reviews into consideration too. After yesterday’s reviews of Nisabdham are out, many people are not inclined to watch the film despite having the luxury to see it on their laptop. ZEE5 should learn from Amazon’s mistakes. It had procured the rights of all the big films for 30 plus crores and none of them got a good talk. There should be an analysis of a film’s prospects by a team before spending so much. No wonder our distributors are always at a loss but this time it is the streaming platform which is clueless on which film to buy and which one to avoid.
