Samantha rejects Tamil films, cites lack of challenging roles

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has become known for her versatile roles. However, she is now taking a selective approach to the projects she chooses. She will soon appear in the film Rakht Brahmand. In a recent interview Samantha explained why she is signing fewer Tamil films and shared her experience of working with filmmakers Raj & DK.

Samantha’s last Tamil film was Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal in 2022. When asked why she isn’t signing more Tamil films, she said she wants projects that challenge her. She believes every film should feel significant and impactful. Samantha said she cannot accept a project unless she believes in it completely. For her, each role must feel like it is worth her full effort and attention.

Samantha praised directors Raj & DK, who worked with her on The Family Man 2. She said they gave her opportunities to explore new types of roles. Samantha also worked with them on Citadel: Honey Bunny and is currently collaborating with them on Rakht Brahmand. She described these experiences as rewarding. Samantha said she now seeks roles that push her as an actor. If a role does not feel fulfilling, she avoids taking it up. She also said she does not want to disappoint herself or others with poor choices.

Samantha faced personal challenges in recent years. She divorced actor Naga Chaitanya in 2021. In 2022, she revealed her diagnosis of myositis, an autoimmune disorder. She stepped back from work during this period.

In 2023, Samantha appeared in two Telugu films, Shaakuntalam and Kushi. Both films did not perform well. In 2024, she starred in Citadel: Honey Bunny. So far, she has not announced any new projects apart from Rakht Brahmand.
