Theatre mafia hits Rajini’s Petta

The issue of ‘Theatre mafia’, the cartelization of four or five theatre barons to deny theatres to small films, has come to the fore once again. Four of five big personalities, who own most of the film theatres in the Telugu states have always been dictating terms to small films. The latest victim is Super Star Rajinikanth‘s Petta. The film is unable to get theatres this Sankranthi.

Interestingly, all the speakers at the pre-release function of Peta have raised the issue of theatre mafia. Ashok Vallabhaneni, who is releasing the Telugu version, said that one should shoot down the theatre mafia. Producer Prasanna Kumar and producer YVS Chowdary too backed him fully. YVS Chowdary said that Ashok Vallabhaneni managed to release Nawab despite not having many theatres. The film has become successful. He said he too faced similar problems.

Now, not a small hero, but superstar like Rajinikanth is facing the problem of theatres. So, the issue of theatre mafia has come to the fore once again.
