When Mahesh Babu rejected a multistarrer with Rajinikanth
The South Indian film industry has two major superstars—Rajinikanth and Mahesh Babu. While they belong to different generations, both have a massive fan following. Imagine the excitement if these two legends had worked together in a film. It would have been a dream project for fans. However, there was one blockbuster movie that could have featured them together but never happened.
In 2016, Janatha Garage was a huge hit, starring Jr. NTR and Mohanlal. Directed by Koratala Siva, the film was a commercial success breaking several box office records. But not many know that the movie was initially planned with Mahesh Babu in the lead role.
Reports suggest that Koratala Siva first narrated the script to Mahesh Babu. If he had accepted the role, the director planned to cast Rajinikanth in Mohanlal’s role. This would have been a historic collaboration between two superstars of Telugu and Tamil cinema.
Mahesh Babu reportedly did not find the script appealing and decided to reject it. He had previously worked with Koratala Siva in Srimanthudu and Bharat Ane Nenu, both of which were massive hits. Had Janatha Garage been made with him, it would have been their third successful film together.
After Mahesh’s rejection, the role went to Jr. NTR and Mohanlal replaced Rajinikanth. Despite this change, Janatha Garage became a blockbuster. Fans, however, still wonder how the film would have looked if Mahesh Babu and Rajinikanth had starred in it.
