In a significant political move, Pawan Kalyan, the chief of Jana Sena Party, declared his intention to contest in the upcoming Andhra Pradesh elections from Pithapuram. The announcement was made during a public gathering held on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s political landscape.

Pawan Kalyan’s decision comes shortly after his party finalized a seat-sharing agreement with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by Chandrababu Naidu, for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Under the agreement, the Jana Sena Party is set to contest 21 assembly seats out of the total 175, while the BJP and TDP will vie for 10 and 144 seats, respectively.

The assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh are slated to be conducted concurrently with the Lok Sabha polls, adding further significance to Pawan Kalyan’s electoral bid.

Having founded the Jana Sena Party in 2014, Pawan Kalyan refrained from contesting the general elections that year, instead lending support to the TDP-BJP alliance, which subsequently clinched victory.

In the 2019 elections, Pawan Kalyan opted to contest independently; however, his party secured only one assembly seat, with Pawan himself facing defeat in both constituencies he contested against candidates from the YSR Congress Party.

Currently, Pithapuram is represented by YSRCP’s Pendem Dorababu in the state assembly, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral battle in the upcoming polls.
