AP Elections: Sharmila Turns Beneficial to Jagan

As Andhra Pradesh gears up for elections, Y S Sharmila’s entry into politics is causing issues for her brother, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Sharmila’s strong criticism of Jagan’s government is creating challenges for the ruling YSR Congress party. The YSR Congress already faces stiff competition from the Telugu Desam Party-Jana Sena Party alliance.

However, Some experts think her involvement might help Jagan indirectly by putting the BJP on high alert and revitalizing the Congress in the state. Interestingly, some analysts view Sharmila’s involvement as a hidden advantage for Jagan. Her presence has put the BJP on high alert, reactivating the Congress in Andhra Pradesh. Sharmila not only targets her brother but also directs her criticism toward the BJP.

For the past decade, the Congress has been dormant in the state, struggling to secure even one percent of the votes. Sharmila’s entry rejuvenates the Congress, with analysts speculating a potential increase in its vote share to 3-4 percent in the upcoming elections, even if winning seats remains uncertain.

A revived Congress could become a formidable force by 2029, attracting old YSRCP leaders and dissatisfied elements. This poses a threat to the BJP, aiming to fill the opposition void in Andhra Pradesh. For this scenario to unfold, the TDP must lose, and the YSRCP must return to power.

The BJP, initially hesitant about aligning with the TDP-Jana Sena alliance, might reconsider and indirectly support the YSRCP. If Jagan regains power, Sharmila’s influence may diminish, and the Congress might fade into obscurity.

Sharmila’s entry indirectly aids Jagan, prompting his potential visit to New Delhi to discuss alliances with top BJP leaders. He may seek BJP assistance to regain power, possibly offering a Rajya Sabha seat to a BJP nominee. If this alliance materializes, the BJP may abandon Jana Sena, supporting Jagan to counter both Naidu and Sharmila effectively.
