AP Elections 2024: Liquor quality to be improved

As the elections draw near in Andhra Pradesh, one topic garnering attention alongside public development is the issue of liquor. Even Chandra Babu Naidu, in his political campaigning, is focusing on this matter. The leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Chandrababu Naidu, is gearing up for a robust election campaign to challenge the current Jagan government.

During a recent tour of his constituency, Kuppam, Chandrababu Naidu made an unexpected yet significant promise regarding liquor quality and accessibility. He criticized the introduction of ‘J-brand’ liquor by the current government, alleging that it was harmful to public health and aimed solely at profit. In response, Chandrababu Naidu pledged to regulate liquor distribution and ensure the availability of high-quality liquor at affordable prices if his alliance comes to power.

He said, “Jagan Mohan Reddy brought in a type of liquor called J-brand, which was new to Andhra Pradesh and wasn’t available before his party came into power. He’s making money from selling this liquor, even though it’s not good for people’s health. So, I want to promise you all today that if our alliance wins the election in Andhra Pradesh, we will control how liquor is sold and make sure people can buy good-quality liquor at a fair price”.

While Chandrababu Naidu’s highlights on liquor issues in his pre-election promises may seem surprising, it addresses a pressing concern among the public. There have been numerous complaints about the quality and pricing of liquor in Andhra Pradesh, prompting Naidu’s pledge for reform.

As various surveys indicate Naidu’s potential victory in the upcoming elections, many netizens are commenting in a sarcastic way that Andhra Pradesh liquor is going to turn to high quality liquor after the elections. Some believe that if Naidu’s alliance emerges victorious, there will be a transformation in the quality of liquor, with expectations of higher standards and better affordability.

Overall, the attention given to liquor-related issues in the lead-up to the elections underscores its significance among some voters in Andhra Pradesh.
