Connect Movie Review

Nayanthara has now released a new film called Connect. Produced by her husband Vignesh Shivan, the film is out. Read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Susan(Nayanthara) is the mother of a teenage daughter. Sadly, her husband passes away and things get worse when her daughter gets entangled in an evil spirit. Things become so worse for her and she calls in for an exorcist(Anupam Kher to help her out. How he saves her daughter is the rest of the story.

Performances

Nayanthara sleepwalks in her role and goes by the role she gets. There are not even proper close-up shots of her where we can see how she emoted in crunch scenes. The young girl who played Nayan’s daughter is very good though. Anupam Kher as the priest was good in his role. Satyaraj looks like a comedian in his role where he is supposed to feel tense.

Analysis

Ashwin Saravanan has made some good films in the past. So, he got an idea during the Covid time and penned a story keeping that as a backdrop. His story is nothing new and has an old-world charm to it and is pale in its approach as well. An evil spirit enters the body of a girl, and a priest coming in to save her is ages old.

The film has a strict few thrills to showcase and the ones which are shown also do not create any impact on the audience. The sound design is very poor and does not create any intimidating factor. Connect is very less on emotions. A girl is possessed by an evil spirit but the mother does not panic much and a very strong scene of horror is cut abruptly.

In all this, what clicks is that the climax has some good moments to cherish. Barring this, Connect is a very boring drama and is made to fool the audience and make some money at the box office but it falls flat.

Bottom Line – Silly, Absurd, and outdated
