Drishyam 3: Huge setback for Superstar
The Drishyam franchise has earned massive popularity over the years, first with the original Malayalam film starring Mohanlal, and later with its Hindi remake featuring Ajay Devgn. Both versions received critical acclaim and strong box office results. The Hindi Drishyam 2 collected nearly ₹350 crore worldwide, becoming one of Ajay Devgn’s biggest hits in recent years.
Recently, Ajay Devgn confirmed that Drishyam 3 is in the works. However, reports suggest some challenges for the Hindi version. The original Malayalam team—Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph—has already announced Drishyam 3, with filming expected to start by the end of May. Meanwhile, the Hindi script is still being developed.
Unlike the earlier parts, the third Hindi version will reportedly feature a completely new storyline, different from its Malayalam counterpart. This move may attract fresh interest but also creates pressure to match the high standards set by the original.
Ajay Devgn has had a successful run with franchises like Golmaal, Dhamaal, and Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe. Still, Drishyam stood out as his strongest solo performance in recent years. With the original makers now focusing on a Pan-India appeal through the Malayalam version, Ajay might miss the opportunity to repeat that success.
While this shift is a blow for the Bollywood star, it opens up a creative challenge. Can the Hindi team come up with a gripping new story that captures the audience like the earlier parts? Only time will tell if Drishyam 3 in Hindi can stand tall beside Mohanlal’s masterpiece.
