The 2024 Forbes list of the World’s Billionaires showed a big increase in the number of Indians making the cut. This year, 200 Indians made it onto the list, up from 169 last year. Their combined wealth also saw a significant rise, reaching a record total of $954 billion, which is a 41% increase from $675 billion last year.
At the very top of the list sits Mukesh Ambani, whose net worth soared to $116 billion from $83 billion, making him the first Asian to join the $100 billion club. Ambani, who remains the ninth richest person globally, holds the title of both India’s and Asia’s wealthiest individual.
Following Ambani is Gautam Adani, the second richest Indian on the list, whose fortune grew by $36.8 billion, securing his spot at No.17 with a total wealth of $84 billion. Meanwhile, Savitri Jindal, the richest woman in India, climbed to the fourth position in the country, with a net worth of $33.5 billion.
The list also welcomed twenty-five new Indian billionaires, including names like Naresh Trehan, Ramesh Kunhikannan, and Renuka Jagtiani. However, some familiar faces like Byju Raveendran and Rohiqa Mistry were not featured this time.
Forbes also highlighted India’s top 10 richest individuals, which include Ambani, Adani, Shiva Nadar, Dilip Shanghvi, Cyrus Poonawalla, Kushal Pal Singh, Kumar Birla, Radhakishan Damani, and Lakshmi Mittal, with their respective net worth listed beside their names. This indicates a continued upward trajectory in wealth accumulation among India’s elite.
