Is Jagan govt posing threat to Tollywood distributors?

It looks like the YS Jagan government in Andhra Pradesh is seriously mulling over to bring the cinema to the doorsteps of consumers. As part of this, swift moves are being taken by the officials. The AP govt is trying to woo Tollywood producers to release their movies directly to households through APSFL. This would eventually impacts distributors and the movie business in the State.

The Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet Limited is a broadband internet with nine lakh domestic consumers and has its presence in 40,000 commercial establishments. The APSFL is aimed at providing high speed internet for throwaway prices.

Now it is trying to influence Tollywood to release small films directly to the consumer. Posani Murali Krishna, producer C Kalyan and APSFL chairman Gowtham Reddy have recently said that they are planning to release small films through the broadband internet. Their assumption is villagers who could not go to theatres can watch films directly. Posani put his right foot ahead and said he hopes that Megastar Chiranjeevi’s film gets released through the fibernet.

Nowadays, sections of audiences are waiting for new films to arrive on OTTs 30 days after their release in theatres. And some, would anyway watch it on iBomma or TamilRockers. The excitement of big screen viewing will gradually fade out if Tollywood producers release their movies on fibernet.
