Suriya and Janhvi Kapoor’s film shelved: The movie Karna featuring actors Suriya and Janhvi Kapoor, and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has reportedly been canceled by its producers. This decision comes after significant preparations for the film.
Originally planned as Suriya’s debut in Hindi cinema and Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal of Draupadi, Karna was set against the backdrop of the Mahabharata with a budget of Rs 350 crores. Despite investing Rs 15 crores in pre-production and casting actors like Ali Fazal, Vijay Verma and Avinash Tiwari, the production company has notified department heads about the cancellation as reported by trustworthy sources.
The ambitious project aimed to blend mythological epicness with modern cinematic techniques, intending to release the film not only in Hindi but also in Tamil, Telugu and other languages. This cancellation has prompted the lead actors to explore other projects an official confirmation is awaited.
Janhvi Kapoor’s work front
Janhvi Kapoor who recently starred alongside Rajkummar Rao continues to expand her career with upcoming films like Devara: Part 1 and Ulajh. These include her Telugu debut alongside Jr NTR and an upcoming project with Ram Charan.
Suriya’s work front
Meanwhile, Suriya is preparing for the release of Kanguva, a fantasy action film featuring Disha Patani and Bobby Deol in their Tamil debut. He is concurrently filming Suriya 44 directed by Karthik Subbaraj and is set to make a cameo appearance in Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira.
