Hero Ram Pothineni and director Puri Jagannath have been waiting for the right hit for a long time. The duo has come together with iSmart Shankar raising huge hype and expectations. To meet those expectations, Puri showed Ram in a completely new avatar. Trailers and songs bring a mass image to the movie. Has iSmart Shankar met those expectations ..? Will Ram and Puri taste success ..?

Story:

Shankar (Ram Pothineni) is a small-time gang leader in the Old City. He falls in love with Chandni (Nabha Natesh). At the same time, politician Kashi Reddy goes to jail in the murder case. Scientist Pinky (Nidhi Agarwal) transfers memories of another person into the brain of Shankar who escaped from prison. Why did another person memories into the brain of the Shankar? Did Shankar kill politician Kashi Reddy What is Shankar’s relationship to CBI Officer Arun (Satyadev)?

Performances:

Ram arguably impressed the audience with his new avatar. With massy attitude and dialogue delivery, Ram has shone. Though at times, we find tacky as he mouths Telangana slang, overall he did justice to Shankar’s role. Ram fits the bill in massy scenes. On the other side, Nabha and Nidhi Agarwal also played their role well. Both the heroines thought didn’t have meaty stuff, were a mere glam doll. Another key character, Satyadev, appearing on the screen, was soon entertained in a memorable role. Shivaji Shinde and Ashish student played the roles of Ezhi in their usual roles.

Analysis:

Puri has had a string of flops, has come with iSmart Shankar to deliver a hit. Right from the firt look and teaser and railer, a lot of hype has been generated. Unlike his previous outings, this time going by the trailers and songs, Puri looks in serious form. Notably, when a lot of experimental films have come up in Telugu cinema, PUri ahs stick to his style of filmmaking with pucca commercial elements. He added his style making traits a song, a fight. While the story is new, Puri has stuck to his own style of narration.

Puri has used his stereotypical style and has not left his massy style making. Compared to previous films, the film is a bit engaging. The film certainly will leave the youth entertained with entertaining dialogues. Mani Sharma has elevated every scene with his music. Some scenes have the feeling of being dominated by background music scenes. The songs are good. Cinematography is another major strength of cinema. Editing and production values are okayish.

Positives:

Ram Pothineni Performance
Mass Elements
Mani Sharma Background Score

Negatives:

Routine commercial formula
Screenplay
