Kalyan Ram prefers OTT for Malayalam films – Here’s why
Kalyan Ram, a popular Telugu actor and brother of Jr NTR is enjoying the success of his latest movie Arjun S/o Vyjayanthi. The film has done well at the box office and received a positive response from audiences. While promoting the film Kalyan Ram spoke openly about his views on doing films in different languages especially Malayalam.
In a recent interview, the actor shared that he enjoys watching movies in various languages at home, especially on streaming platforms. When asked if he would like to act in a Malayalam film someday, he gave an interesting answer. He said he would be happy to do a Malayalam film, but only if it is released on OTT platforms, not in theaters.
Explaining his choice, Kalyan Ram said that Malayalam movies usually have a different style compared to Telugu films. According to him, Malayalam films are slow-paced, natural, and often do not have high-energy fight scenes or commercial elements that are common in Telugu cinema. Because of this difference in style, he believes such films would work better for audiences on streaming platforms.
“I would definitely do a Malayalam film if the story suits me,” he said, “but I will release it directly on OTT. I won’t go for a theatrical release. Malayalam movies are made in a different way, and I feel that OTT is the right platform for them.”
This statement by Kalyan Ram highlights a growing trend in the Indian film industry where actors are becoming more open to experimenting with different regional languages and styles of storytelling. At the same time, it shows how OTT platforms are becoming more important for filmmakers and actors to reach diverse audiences.
Arjun S/o Vyjayanthi, Kalyan Ram’s current release, is a Telugu cop drama that focuses on the emotional bond between a mother and her son. It also marks the return of veteran actress Vijayashanti, who plays the mother. Their relationship is said to be the heart of the film.
The pre-release event of the film was attended by Jr NTR, who took time out from his busy schedule to support his brother. Fans were excited to see the two brothers together, and Jr NTR’s presence added to the buzz around the movie.
South Indian cinema has often seen actors crossing language barriers and exploring new territories. Many stars have acted in multiple languages and found success. Kalyan Ram’s interest in doing a Malayalam film even if only for OTT adds to this ongoing evolution of regional cinema.
