Liger Movie Review

Vijay Devarakonda’s Liger was promoted so much that the audience got so interested and put the advance bookings on fire. The film was released today in the south and read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Balamani is a single mother, who takes her son Liger(Vijay Devarakonda) to Mumbai to get him trained in MMA. Her dream is that Liger should become a national champion. Liger finds solace with Ronit Roy who coaches him to be a fighter. Liger falls for Tanya(Ananya Pandey) , a rich girl who ditches him and leaves Liger helpless. This blow regains the senses of Liger who now dreams of the big stage. He wins the nationals and wants to go win the US championship. How does he win that and where does Mike Tyson feature in this setup?

Performance

Vijay Devarakonda is a solid actor and has proved it with so many films. But in Liger, he disappoints big time. The entire blame should go to Puri Jagan for etching such a silly role for Vijay. The stammering act is a big letdown and the manner in which Vijay plays it is also very disturbing and gets on to your nerves after a point. The only solace is Vijay’s chiseled body.

Ananya Pandey has done so well in the role. She as the rich brat is very good in the film and makes sense in the second half. Ronit Roy is like a puppet who does not get to do much. Alia and Getup Sreenu are pretty good in their roles. Mike Tyson is good but his role is made like a joker by Puri Jagan.

What’s Good

Vijay’s actions episodes
Songs

What’s Bad

Vijay’s stammer
Poor Storyline
Lack of emotions
Silly second half

Analysis

When Liger was announced fans were super happy that they would get to see their hero Vijay in the direction of a director like Puri Jagan. But now after watching the film, they are even blaming the actor for even accepting to do this film which is soulless and has nothing going its way.

One wonders what was even Puri thinking when he wrote such a cheesy script which has been made in so many films earlier. The film has a backdrop of MMA but that has not at all been used well in the film. There is no seriousness in the sport and is used as a property in the film.

Telugu songs are disappointing to say the least. The BGM and the whole setup looks like a Hindi film. The first half has some breezy moments which make sense. But it is the second half that tanks and has no value at all. Puri Jagan takes the audience for granted and the last coffin on the head is the entry of Mike Tyson which does not click one bit.

Liger is not high on emotions as they look fake. The mother-son or the lead pair’s track, none of them work. When you see the film it is clear that the director has gone to shoot without any bound script and has made the film in such a hurry and wasted crores of money.

All in all, Liger is a very disappointing boxing drama that will test your patience. This is not what the audience expected from Puri Jagan and Vijay Devarakonda. This film will dent the career of Puri and help Vijay gain some craze in Hindi. Apart from that it ends as a disaster.

Bottom Line – Epic Disaster
