Pan-India star Prabhas is part of the much-awaited mythological film Kannappa, led by Manchu Vishnu. The movie is made on a grand scale and features several major stars in special roles. “It’s Not Ramayana”: Manchu Vishnu’s strong remarks on Adipurush

Actor Manchu Vishnu is currently promoting his upcoming movie Kannappa, which is set to release on April 25. Made with a massive budget of ₹140 crores, the film will be released as a pan-India project. While the teaser has received a positive response, it has also faced criticism regarding its filming locations and other aspects.

During a recent promotional event, Manchu Vishnu addressed the criticisms with sharp replies. Responding to questions about filming Kannappa in New Zealand instead of India, he pointed out that historical movies like the Mahabharata were also filmed in various locations without controversy. According to Vishnu, the choice of location doesn’t matter as much as the storytelling and the emotions conveyed on screen.

He further justified the decision to shoot in New Zealand by explaining that the country’s green landscapes resembled how forests in ancient India might have looked. Vishnu stated that Indian forests from the 2nd century were lush and pollution-free, making New Zealand a perfect choice to recreate such a setting.

Addressing comparisons with Adipurush, Vishnu firmly stated that Kannappa should not be compared to Prabhas’ movie. He criticized Adipurush for being shot entirely using green screens arguing that the film was more of an imaginative interpretation rather than a true adaptation of the Ramayana. “Adi purush is not Ramayana. It’s an assumption that Ramayana might have happened in such a way,” he said. He added that since Adipurush wasn’t a direct retelling of the epic, it failed to resonate with audiences.

Vishnu also responded to the criticism regarding a missing traditional mark (bottu) on his character in the teaser. He questioned whether critics truly understood history, explaining that ancient tribal communities weren’t allowed inside temples. Hence, historical accuracy was maintained in Kannappa.

Despite this competition, the team behind Kannappa has not yet made an announcement regarding their release date.
