Varasudu Movie Review

Dil Raju has worked so hard on his latest production Varisu. The dubbed version with the name Varasudu has hit the screens today. Read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Rajendra (Sarathkumar) is a rich businessman who has three sons played by Srikanth, Shyaam, and Thalapathy Vijay. While Rajendra loves his two sons, he has ego issues with Vijay. One fine day, he decides to hand over his wealth to one of his sons, and hell breaks loose. Vijay, who is staying away from the family jumps into the picture and sets things right. Well, how did he do that is the basic story of Varasudu.

Performances

Thalapathy Vijay is back with a family drama after a long time and excels. The way he emotes brings his comedy touch to play and fights in key action scenes were so good to see. Rashmika suits her role well but her character is limited to only songs. Sarath Kumar as the head of the family was impressive. After a long time, we get to see Jayasudha in a key role and she brings depth to the proceedings. Srikanth and Shaam are lovely in their roles.

What’s Good

Vijay’s performances
Few emotional scenes
The comedy between Yogi Babu and Vijay

What’s Bad

Routine Storyline
Slow pace
Runtime
Rushed ending

Analysis

Varasudu is a family drama so do not go in expecting something new. The storyline is ages old and we have been seeing it right from our childhood. If this was not enough, the runtime is a big villain. The film is close to three hours and bores you in many areas. At least half an hour should have been trimmed. The feel-good factor goes away after a while, due to this excess length.

Thaman has given good music and the songs are shot so nicely. The family drama has some good moments and the big advantage is that the emotions are not over-dramatic and are sensible for the most part. But in all this, there is nothing new that has been showcased by director Vamsi Paidipally. Dil Raju has spent big bucks and the production values are rich to see on screen.

Vamsi Paidipally has chosen a safe story and pitched it to Vijay. From his point of view, the Tamil folks will enjoy the film as Vijay is doing it after a long gap. But for the Telugu audience, the film is way too routine. So many scenes remind us of hit family dramas in the past. Rashmika is hardly there and she has been not used well.

The film has fun scenes and Vijay carries the proceedings on his shoulders. His fans will surely have a blast watching this film. But the other factor like the story, narration by Vamshi, and emotions are such we have experienced before already. So, Varasudu is a routine family drama that has a strict few good moments and nothing new to enjoy.

Bottom Line – Same old family drama

2.5/5
