Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K Keshava Rao, announced his resignation from the party on Friday. Rao revealed his decision to rejoin the Congress party after discussions with its leadership in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, his daughter and Hyderabad Mayor, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, is set to join the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday. Earlier, Keshava Rao met with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his residence to finalize plans for his return to the Congress.

In a media statement from his residence, Keshava Rao reflected on his extensive political journey, spanning nearly five-and-a-half decades. He recounted his significant roles within the Congress party, including serving as a Central Working Committee (CWC) member and advocating for Telangana statehood.

Highlighting his decision to join the TRS in 2013 under K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership, Rao praised KCR’s vision and efforts towards the development of Telangana. He credited KCR for transforming the state, citing advancements in GDP, power, irrigation, power production, and IT exports.

Expressing disappointment over the BRS’s defeat in Assembly elections despite Telangana’s progress, Rao emphasized his loyalty to the Congress party, declaring his intent to remain with it until his last breath.

Rao disclosed that he had informed KCR about his decision to resign from the BRS, citing unfulfilled promises regarding the merger of TRS into the Congress after Telangana’s formation.

He also expressed his frustration over KCR’s reluctance to join the INDIA alliance and pledged to respond appropriately if faced with a whip from the BRS regarding his party allegiance shift.
