Wild Dog director credits Tollywood for embracing him with open arms

Writer Solomon Ahishor, who is making his Telugu directorial debut with the Nagarjuna, Dia Mirza-starrer Wild Dog, is absolutely overjoyed with the way Tollywood has received him, despite a shaky start to his career, he said in an interview with a vernacular daily today. The Oopiri, Maharshi writer has had several bitter experiences in Bollywood with multiple films being shelved even before taking off and his first film as a director, John Day, tanking at the box office.

The writer-director has previously worked as an assistant with the Bhatts, but had come out of their camp with an ambition to make a film on his own. Luck clearly wasn’t on his side and time was running out, but help came from an unexpected quarter in the form of producer Niranjan Reddy who sought his writing help for Oopiri, the adaptation of the French movie The Intouchables. His association with the film director Vamsi Paidipally strengthened through this phase and the two went onto work for Maharshi later.

The positive responses for Oopiri and Maharshi gave a new lease of life to his career and he had come up with a story based on real incidents and narrated it to Nagarjuna. With timely suggestions from the actor, the film was okayed and the director owes his career in the film industry to the trust that names like Niranjan Reddy and Nagarjuna have placed in him. Wild Dog, also starring Saiyami Kher in the lead role, had resumed shooting recently.
