Maharashtra government has given a jolt to Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu by issuing a arrest warrant to him and 15 others in connection with Babli barrage irrigation project agitation in Maharashtra in 2010. Chandrababu and others are summoned before the court before September 21. The ordered was issued by the judicial first class magistrate of Dharmabad in Nanded district N R Gajbhiye.

Apart from Chandrababu, AP State Water Resources Minister, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, AP Social Welfare Minister, N Anand Babu and former MLA G Kamalakar who defected to TRS, are also booked. Chandrabbau along with other legislators, carried out protest over Babli project across river Godavari stating that construction of barrage would hamper the lives of then erstwhile Andhra people living in downstream. The matter which reached Supreme Court ruled in favour of Maharashtra government. At the time of protest, Chandrababu and others were arrested and were released later.
Over the arrest warrant, IT minster Lokesh said, “He fought to protect the interests of Telangana. He even refused to seek bail when he was arrested”. Notably, Chandrababu was given about the non-bailable arrest warrant during his vsiit at the annual brahmotsavam to Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala near Tirupati.
