Election commission gets complaint on Jagan; deets inside

In less than two months, Andhra Pradesh is gearing up for elections, with the countdown now at 50 days. Recently, the Andhra Pradesh government took a noteworthy step by assigning two helicopters for Chief Minister Jagan’s use, citing concerns about potential threats from anti-social groups. However, this decision didn’t go unnoticed.

Just after the government order sanctioning the helicopters for Jagan, YCP MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju took the matter to the Election Commission. He argued that it goes against the law to use public funds for hiring helicopters solely for an election campaign. The MP expressed his concern, labeling it as a clear misuse of power, urging the Election Commission to intervene and take action against Jagan.

Raju, a rebel within the YCP, emphasized that Jagan is essentially squandering public money under the guise of addressing an elevated security threat. The timing of this complaint is crucial, as the election code is poised to come into effect shortly after March 13.

The question now arises: Does the Election Commission possess the authority to curb Jagan’s use of the two helicopters? If so, will they consider the case presented by Raju and potentially restrict Jagan? The answer to these questions remains uncertain for now, but as the election draws nearer, we will soon discover the Election Commission’s stance on this matter.
