Exclusive: Harish Shankar’s protege turns director

Vijay Kanakamedala, director of Naandi, released his debut motion poster yesterday. The director from Bhadrachalam began his career from being an assistant director to a co-director in all of Harish Shankar movies. Going by the poster it is visible that he had attempted something different and not the regular commercial stuff. He tells Klapboardpost.com, “I will do commercial cinema for sure but just wanted to do something different for my debut film. I have struggled four years to bring this story out. This is for sure heading for a theatrical release.”

What is Naandi? According to the debut director, the hero is heralding a new beginning, paving a new path and that is what is termed as Naandi. Tell him this one looks like a Tamil film poster, he agrees that it gives out a Tamil flavour but it isn’t that at all. The visual of Allari Naresh sitting naked is just a part of the scene. It is a jail and not a police station. It isn’t harassment but a formality that takes place in a prison, when you are checked in..i.e in the nude.

He refuses to reveal anything more, “It is a crime thriller with a social element. No messages in this movie except for the fact that life is a struggle for everyone. You will know more of the story from the trailer and teasers. There are no heroes and heroines here but the main artist is Naresh. There is family emotion, social cause etc. I have learnt a lot being in Harish’s films. I don’t have a feeling that I did my first film. I have worked in television shows and directed it and then came as assistant director and was a co-director till DJ. Probably I’ll begin to feel the excitement when the film is out and people react positively.”
