 Peddanna Movie Review

Peddanna is superstar Rajini’s latest offering for his fans. The film has had a low-key release and, read our review to know if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Veeranna played by Rajini has only one big dream of seeing his sister Kanakamaha Lakshmi(Keerthi Suresh) married. He also sets a solid match but his sister ditches him for someone else. An upset Veeranna then comes to know through his grandmother that his sister is in Kolkatta and has issues with dreaded dons played by Abhimanyu Singh and Jagapathi Babu. How Veeranna reaches Kolkatta and rescues his sister is the basic crux.

Performances

Rajini tried hard to impress but the story and thrills are so outdated that even he cannot do anything about it. His fans will love him in fights and songs but the star hero does nothing much. Nayanthara is glowing than before and has a terrific screen presence and is shown so beautifully in all the songs.

Keerthy Suresh. It is hard to understand why Keerthi Suresh even accepted the role. Though she has a meaty screen presence, she plays a damsel in distress and has absolutely no depth in her acting. Jagapathi Babu is very good but Abhimanyu Singh just sleepwalks in his role.

Analysis

Peddanna is about a brother’s love for this sister. How many times will our director try this formula in films? Even Rajini has done so many films himself. The brother and sister bond is shown well but that is not handled properly in the latter part.

Rajini’s films have a thumping BGM and songs but that is missing totally here. Khushboo and Meena’s entry only irritates the audience and is filled with Tamil flavor. The visuals are grand but the money is wasted on sets and fights which come in time and again.

It is very hard to get dates of an actor like Rajini. When you have a hero like him, one should make a film that will be liked by his fans. But the case with Peddanna is that even his fans will be mighty disappointed this Diwali.

Bottom Line – Been there done that
