Rules Ranjann Movie Review

Story

Rules Ranjann is a story of Manoranjan (played by Kiran Abbavaram), a techie who strictly goes by his set of rules. After fetching a cushy software job in Mumbai, Kiran Abbavaram feels void of missing something in life. He has a backstory from college. His crush Sana (Neha Sshetty) who was once his classmate when both studied engineering in temple town Tirupati. But Sana appears out of the blue in Mumbai. Spellbound Ranjan looks stunned at the very sight of Sana at Mumbai local train station. Ranjan tries to please and impress her as he takes a tour of the entire city. However, both bid goodbye to each other without exchanging phone numbers. What does Ranjan do to track her? Will he ever find his girl? — is the story in short.

Performances

Kiran Abbavaram as Rules Ranjann has nailed the character. His attire and diction evoked whistles in the hall. His comedy timing, especially the scenes with Vennela Kishore, is another added highlight.

Neha Sshetty as Sana looks as flamboyant a girl she is herself. At times she appears quite bold. Sana speaks her heart out but feels happy spending time with Ranjan. She looked ravishing in the Sammohanuda single.

Meanwhile, Vennela Kishore’s character as Bollywood director got enough meat in the film. His combination sequences with hero Kiran are hilarious in the first half. Viva Harsha and Hyper Aadhi were good with their punchlines in the second half. Sudarshan too chipped in well.

Analysis

Rathinam Krishna, the son of prominent producer AM Rathnam, came to Telugu box office after a long gap. His last outing titled ‘Oxygen’ was with hero Gopichand.  The story of Rules Ranjann starts off with a typical corporate setup in Mumbai. The story seems refreshing with hero Kiran playing a techie.

The first half provided an unlimited comedy between Vennela Kishore and Kiran Abbavaram. Vennela Kishore plays the co-director in Mumbai and comes with a girl each day to his room. This routine distracts Kiran and the conversation between both actors looks hilarious. Rules Ranjann turns ruthless Ranjan for Vennela Kishore who gets irritated often. The punchlines are quite organic between both of them.

The love track between Kiran and Neha takes its time to set the motion. His backstory takes off with a good premise. The love-at-first sight on the first day of college. The heroine stumbles upon the boy. And there is more than what meets the eye between these two love birds. The friendship blossoms into love for Ranjann.

The second half shifts to the protagonist’s native place Tirupati where he happens to come after a long time. The introduction of characters Hyper Aadhi, Viva Harsha, and Sudarshan tickles your funny bones.

In his desperation to know the whereabouts of Sana, Ranjan had to please everyone. Goes and meets his old friends who studied with him in college. Funny characters keep emerging from time to time during their student’s reunion.

Music and other technicalities

Music scored by Amrish is extraordinary. Sammohanuda song which has become a chartbuster in the playlist of music lovers, is the highlight of Rules Ranjann. Other songs too were impressive.

Cinematography from Dulip Kumar is impressive. The visuals of Mumbai are good. The production values are great in terms of filmmaking and screenplay.

Bottomline
Rathinam Krishna made a comeback with Rules Ranjan. Lead pair Kiran Abbavaram and Neha Sshetty scored a hit with the film.
