Toofan Movie Review

Toofan is the latest sports drama that is now out on Amazon Prime. The film is a boxing drama and, read our review to know if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

Ajju Bhai(Farhan Akhtar) is a small-time gangster in the Dongri area of Mumbai. He gets into boxing and decides to leave his bad side of a dreaded gangster. He woos Prabhu(Pares Rawal) the famous coach in the city. But his boxing journey is not easy as he marred in controversies and goes down. The film is about he raises from the dust and becomes the real Toofan.

Performances

Farhan Akhtar is the life and soul of the film with his stand-out performance. He as Ajju Bhai is solid as he gave an emotional performance which is quite good. He gets the full scope to perform and showcase his body. Paresh Rawal is seen as the strict coach and is the one who brings a lot of pain in the film with his strong performance. If not for him, the film would have fallen down badly. Mrunal Thakur is also a good choice as she does well in the film.

Analysis

The film is all about a local guy becoming a champion boxer. He rises and falls down in no time to once again rise from the dust and make the most of his career. The film has a very good premise and the performances are also good. The director Rakesh Mehra etches his characters so well and sets them in the isles of Mumbai.

But he takes so much time to take the film into the actual story. Speaking of story, the film is like a carbon copy of Sultan and has no novelty at all. The same fall of a champion and rise of him is shown in so many films like Chakde.

Though the emotions are so strong, the film is filled with so many routine scenes that you get a feeling that I have seen this so many times. In a nutshell, Farhan’s energy and sacrifice have gone to waste with this film which is a dull sports drama.

Bottom Line – Lacks basic novelty
