Two Star Films Revive Theatres After Dry Spell
Telugu cinema recently went through a dull phase with no major hits at the box office. Since the release of Sree Vishnu’s Single on May 9th, not a single Telugu film managed to impress audiences or perform well commercially. Many theatre owners even decided to shut down screens due to poor footfall.
Kamal Haasan’s much-awaited Thug Life was expected to perform well, but it failed to attract viewers. Even Bollywood was facing a similar situation, with films struggling to make an impact. However, things started to change with the arrival of two major releases — Sitaare Zameen Par starring Aamir Khan, and Kubera, a film featuring Dhanush and Nagarjuna.
Both films hit the screens on a Friday and received a good opening response. Thanks to positive word of mouth, ticket sales picked up sharply by Friday evening. Over the weekend, both movies witnessed packed theatres with extra shows being arranged to meet demand. Sitaare Zameen Par saw its collections double on Saturday, and Sunday continued the strong performance.
These two films have brought much-needed energy back to theatres. Audiences finally have content they are excited about, and the industry is seeing some relief. With such strong openings and growing buzz, Sitaare Zameen Par and Kubera are expected to do well in the coming days too.
After a dry spell, these star-led films have turned things around and given a fresh boost to the Telugu box office. Both cinema fans and theatre owners are now hoping for a steady run of successful films in the weeks to come.
