Karthi, who scored a super hit early this year with the bilingual Oopiri, has now come back with a horror based period drama film Kaashmora. Starring Nayanthara and Sri Divya in the female lead roles, the movie has hit the screens today. Here is the review of the film.

Synopsis:

Kaashmora (Karthi) is a conman who cheats people by claiming himself as a demon hunter. Many Policemen and politicians believe in Kaashmora’s cheat tricks. On the other side, Yamini (Sri Divya) tries to expose Kaashmora’s scam but fails to do so.

Meanwhile, one day an old man tells Kaashmora that there are some spirits in his house and asks Kaashmora to hunt those spirits. Kaashmora agrees and moves into that house. Things get odd when he enters the house and he gets trapped there due to a spirit of Raj Nayak. Who is Raj Nayak? What is the connection between Raj Nayak and Kaashmora? To know these answers, you have to watch the film.

Performances:

The major asset of this film is the acting of Karthi. He excelled in both the roles of Raj Nayak and Kaashmora. While he is seen in an entertaining avatar in Kaashmora’s role, he impresses the audience as a weird soldier in Raaj Nayak’s role. Nayanthara looks regal in the getup of Ratna Maha Devi and she impresses with her role. She is good in the sword fight sequence. Though Sri Divya got a minor role, she did complete justice to it. Among the other cast, Vivek entertains with his comic timing.

Technical and overall analysis:

Director Gokul has chosen a very good script and conveyed it quite decently. This comes as a relief among the stereotyped horror comedies that are coming of late. The concept of connecting a story that took place 800 years ago to the present scams that are taking place in the name of spirit hunters, is appreciable. Music and background score by Santosh Srinivas were unimpressive. Production values of the film are top notch and bring out the rich look to the movie.

The first half of the movie revolves around the life of Kaashmora and it is very racy and keeps entertained audience all the time. Things become slow in the second half during the periodic scenes. But last 20 minutes sequence which includes a fight between Raj Nayak and Ratna Maha Devi is top-notch. VFX of this film is very good and viewers don’t feel it like computer graphics. On the whole, Kaashmora ends up as a good horror based socio-fantasy thriller.

One-line verdict:

Entertaining horror comedy

Rating: 3/5
