Exclusive : Nuveksha Interview

She is simple, elegant, pretty and plain speaking. She hasn’t done theatre or any acting course but has shown immense potential and talent in the few films that have been released. She was known as Namratha Darekar earlier but her real name is Nuveksha. Acting happened to Nuveksha by chance and she tells Y.Sunita Chowdhary of Klapboardpost.com of how she made her debut in the South. “Someone approached me for a commercial and once that was out, I got an offer to act in the South. The commercials were from Himalaya and Parle and I got connected to the public instantly. I come from a family background where everyone is academically highly qualified. No one ever said I could try in the entertainment industry but my mother was very supportive. I was into dancing as a child and I am a trained instructor from Shaimak Daver. I discovered that I could dance as well as act. Because of my studies I couldn’t continue the art form. I am a doctor and since I am pursuing acting too, I try a balancing act.”

About her medical degree and how she maintains her fitness levels, Nuveksha says, “I put in 100 percent and it was through merit, I acquired the medical degree and in those five and a half years I didn’t even think of acting. Because of erratic shooting schedules, eating habits can go awry. Not that because I am a doctor I am heath conscious, I have always been disciplined. Even as a student of medicine, I had rough schedules. I generally eat home cooked food or anything that is healthy but avoids junk. I go for dal, chawal, chapatis and something simple. I do have cheat days.” The actor is currently doing Atithidevo Bhava, Sebastian and another Bollywood film.

The actor is quite lucky that she got a film as soon as the advertisement came out. Many actors struggle to get noticed in the glam world but Nuveksha made use of the opportunity and gave her best to the roles. Didn’t she find the language complicated? ” The cast and the crew in both my films were helpful. They are so kind to translate the language. They are very friendly to me and all this helped in my modulation and lip synch. I was aiming for a Telugu launch and I am glad I had that. I do watch a lot of Telugu films, and I have a lot of favourite actors. The person I idolise keeps on changing but right now I have a massive crush on Allu Arjun. My parents didn’t get to watch Atithi Devo Bhava because of the pandemic, they couldn’t travel. They saw it in bits and pieces through promos and they liked it. I am still taking baby steps here, I hardly know the language and people but each day I am learning. I admit I was nervous initially but with such amazing people around, I am getting out of it.”

Three films old and Nuveksha is not in a hurry to sign films by the dozen. She quips, “If I don’t get what I want I shall keep on auditioning. I just can’t do any film that comes my way.” To a query if there are two heroines in Sebastian, she says she plays the main lead. She shares, “I am not putting lipstick and my hair is not blowing, I sport a no makeup look. That is my natural skin. It is a role of a 21-22 years old cute, spirited person. There are no dances. It is a very detailed, expression wise screenplay. A real character that you’ll relate to and also it isn’t a typical Telugu film but it is indeed very entertaining. I want to do Tamil and other language films too. I have been in Hyderabad for quite some time, it is too welcoming. I love the food and the people. Sundays we don’t work right, we explore. I have been to Madanpalle, the climate was 16 degrees and it was fun. Madanpalle is the place where the film was shot.”
