Hi Nanna Movie Review

Nani, known for diverse roles, returns in “Hi Nanna,” a touching story released in theaters. let’s see how the film is.

Plot:

The film revolves around Viraj(Nani), a photographer and single father to Mahii(Baby Kaira Khanna), his 6-year-old daughter. Viraj keeps his wife’s story a secret until Mahii achieves top marks. When she does, Viraj breaks his promise, leading Mahii to leave home. On the other hand, Yashna, (Mrunal Thakur), enters their lives and alters their destinies. How Yashna changes the lives of Viraj and Mahii is what the film is about.

Performances and Technical aspects

Nani portrays Viraj convincingly, showcasing his familiar gentle side. However, the film lacks novelty in Nani’s performance, except for a few romantic scenes. Mrunal Thakur shines with subtle expressions, while child actress Kiara impresses with her adorable portrayal. Priyadarshi’s character contributes significantly, and he stands out in the well-executed climax. Other actors have limited impact due to their brief roles.

Despite an intriguing premise, “Hi Nanna” suffers from slow pacing and clichéd scenes. Notably, Hesham Wahab’s background score and captivating cinematography salvage the viewing experience. The screenplay could have been more engaging, but the debut director’s effort is visible. However, the execution follows a conventional path for most parts.

Analysis

Nani, known for lighter films, delves into emotional storytelling in “Hi Nanna.” While the movie starts promisingly, it falls into the familiarity of a typical love story. The slow pacing, particularly in the romantic segment, affects the overall narrative, making the first half average.

However, the second half grips emotions more effectively. Despite some drawbacks like Goa episodes and a predictable climax, the actors shine in the last 30 minutes. The film beautifully portrays a father’s love intertwined with unattainable desires. Despite Mrunal’s performance, the character of Yashna could have been better executed, overshadowing Viraj’s role.

The character of Jayaram gains significance in the climax, contributing to a compelling turn of events. Overall, “Hi Nanna” is worth watching if you appreciate emotional moments, despite its slow pace and predictability.
