Renowned music composer Ilayaraja recently took legal action against the creators of the Malayalam film ‘Manjummel Boys’ for allegedly using his musical work without permission. The dispute revolves around the song “Kanmani Anbodu Kaadhalan,” originally composed by Ilayaraja for the 1991 movie ‘GUNA.’

In the legal notice, Ilayaraja expressed shock and surprise at the unauthorized use of his composition in ‘Manjummel Boys.’ He emphasized that as the original composer, he holds the rights to his work under the Copyright Act of 1957. According to the notice, any use of his musical creations without proper consent is considered a violation of copyright law.

The notice issued by Ilayaraja’s legal team warned of potential legal action against the producers of ‘Manjummel Boys’ for the unauthorized use of his original musical piece. This move underscores the importance of respecting copyright laws and obtaining proper permissions for the use of creative works.

Prior to this legal notice, there were other legal proceedings surrounding ‘Manjummel Boys.’ Babu Shahir, a partner of Parava Films, filed a petition that led to the court issuing an interim order, staying further proceedings in a case alleging conspiracy and fraud against the producers. The court also prevented the arrest of individuals associated with the film, including Soubin and Shawn Anthony.

The success of ‘Manjummel Boys’ in the film industry cannot be denied. Directed by Chidambaram, the film became a commercial hit, grossing Rs 200 crores worldwide. It received positive reception not only in Kerala but also beyond its borders.
