Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s Lakshmi’s NTR generated a lot of hype and created the right kind of buzz. Thanks to RGV’s film subject and depicting the real-life incident form NTR’s life including Chandrababu Naidu’s backstabbing incident (Viceroy Hotel). Talking about Lakshmi’s NTR Day 1 box office collection, the film raked in $90,214 at the US box office on Thursday and with the positive word of mouth it collected $55,714 on Friday, in total $145,928.
The film is the biggest ever opener in RGV’scareerr so far. Trade analyst Jeevi tweeted, “It’s very rare to see a film getting houseful in RTC cross roads. #LakshmisNTR is full for all 3 shows so far in Sandhya 35mm despite showing in another theatre in same locality! Apart from a couple of films from sankranthi, this is only film with this kind of response in 2019.”
The movie chronicles the life of late NTR after the entry of Lakshmi Parvathi. Apart from showing the bond between Lakshmi Parvathi and NTR, it shows the infamous incident of Viceroy Hotel that created a flutter in Andhra Pradesh politics where Chandrababu ‘backstabbed’ NTR.
