Merlapaka Gandhi changed my career graph: Brahmaji

Brahmaji is playing a pivotal role in Ek Mini Katha that will be released this week in Amazon Prime. This is his first release this lockdown. Merlapaka Gandhi has written the screenplay and dialogues. Director Karthik Rapolu is making his debut. Says Brahmaji, “This is Gandhi’s typical comedy title. It is related to sexual problems in kids. I play his father, when he is young he comes to me with a problem and I neglect it. It is a small penis problem, but it is nothing to worry about and is rectified. The kids ask a lot of doubts and the father gets annoyed and avoids it especially if it is related to sex. If he had dealt with it in a different way, things would have been different. It has been shown in a satirical manner and has been planned for the theatre.”

He further adds, “I have done my best roles in my career in his projects be it Venkatadri Express or Express Raja. The former changed the graph. Krishnarjuna Yuddham flopped but I am confident this will work.” He is of the opinion that small budgets should be encouraged and we should welcome them. In this pandemic, going to the theatres is difficult and the advantage here is there is no segment or genre that a director needs to cater to. Any topic and any length, a director can go ahead on this platform. Look at web series such as Family Man. There are bad films that we can skip because of the amount of choice we have. There are direct sales of films on the platform and pay per view. All said and done it ensures the safety and health of the audience, there is no need to step out.

Brahmaji adds that he is getting to meet fresh talent who are narrating interesting stories just for OTT and he is game to do experimental and small budget films provided his role is interesting. He admits that none of the people in the industry were prepared for the second lockdown especially when there was huge work and people were working day and night, when there was shortage of cameras and caravans too. Business was almost back to normal, with Krack, Jathi Ratnalu, Uppena doing great at the box office. I am positive that in another six months or so, there will be a similar boom and we shall see many more hits.”
