Godfather Movie Review

Godfather is megastar Chiranjeevi’s new film which has hit the screens today. Read our review to find out if the film has any juice in it or not.

Plot

A CM of a state passes away and his crucial post is left open. Aditya(Satyadev) is CM’s son in law and wants to grab the post with the help of his wife Satya(Nayanthara). But the treasurer of the party, Brahma(Chiranjeevi) opposes this and a new war among the party workers erupts. The rest of the plot is how Brahma plays master stroke and sets things right in his party.

Performances

Chiranjeevi is solid as Brahma. His expressions are to die for in the film. He plays a mature role and has no heroine or dances. Director Mohan Raja showcases him quite well. Nayanthara is effective as Satya and plays the sheet anchor’s role. Satyadev gets a big role in his career and he is mind blowing as the villain. His standup act in front of an actor like Chiranjeevi is commendable. Sunil is okay and Murali Sharma was very good. Divi gets a neat role and brahmaji plays his part well. Salman Khan is seen in an extended cameo and he lights up the screen with his entry in the end.

Chiru-Salman combo
First Half
Satyadev’s performance

What’s Bad

Slow second half
Lack of gripping drama

Analysis

Godfather is the remake of Lucifer and has been changed a lot. The first half is filled with solid drama and political angle and the second half is kept commercial with fun moments by Salman and Chiranjeevi. The action part is neat and the drama created works for the first half.

Director Mohan Raja needs to be credited for showcasing Chiranjeevi in an impressive manner. The way the family politics is shown looks good in the film. Thaman is one more advantage as his BGM lifts the film in key areas. The visuals are neat and the fights composed at the end look good for the fans.

The second half has certain issues. Salman Khan is too big a star to play second fiddle to an actor like Chiranjeevi. Plus his role is not etched that well in the film. But all that is gone as the entertainment is neatly packaged. The manner in which director Mohan Raja has stayed true to Lucifer and makes sure that fans of Chiru does not get disappointed one bit.

Bottom Line – Chiranjeevi in a new avatar
