No more gifts from bro@Raksha Bandhan : Mehreen

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Mehreen shares the bond she has with her brother. She tells Klapboardpost.com, “I have been celebrating Raksha Bandhan since childhood and have been sending Rakhis to cousins who live abroad. The best thing about this festival is, my brother never gives me gifts, he never believes in all this and he wants me to be humble and grounded. When I was a youngster, I would get a lot of gifts but ever since I grew up and we have begun earning our money, he stopped giving me gifts. He doesn’t even give me a petal though he knows I love flowers but he flies down to be with me every Raksha Bandhan day. We are best friends, he is younger to me.

Actually every day is a celebration with him, it doesn’t matter if it is Rakhi or some other festival. I remember, for one Rakhi festival, he took me and mom for dinner to Falaknuma Palace. I had been working in Hyderabad for a long time but I never got the opportunity to explore. We siblings are supposed to protect each other, gifts are secondary or of no importance. We are Sikhs, we go to the Gurudwara and then tie the Rakhi and pray. This Rakhi is all about being sane, and about surviving. Hopeful January 1st onwards we can think of fulfilling our dreams. I have been continuously working all these years and actually this is the longest break I had in my career.”
