Opinion: Rhea seeking police protection not wrong

For the past two months plus, the Prime Time on television has been devoted to the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The people are so hungry for news and want to know every minute detail concerning the case and the channels are competing with each other to break news. It is true, that but for the media overdrive, CBI would have never come into the scene and the Mumbai police would have closed the file as a suicide case. But what happened yesterday was a bit too much. Rhea was right to ask for police protection though she is prime accused. For the past few days we have been seeing that the alleged accused is not able to move out of the house and step into the car. The media is falling all over them with questions and there is every possibility of them getting hurt.

Rhea Chakraborty 2 The media should have maintained a respectable distance. Asking for police protection should not be mixed with other things. The media was quick to point out that Sushant wasn’t given protection and wonder why the Maharashtra cops were behaving like Rhea’s private security. It is just not Rhea, even the other witnesses who were attending the interrogation were being stalked, hounded and harassed. Yesterday Siddarth Pithani, after 10 hours of interrogation said he wanted to get some sleep and he should be allowed to go. The media didn’t let him till he gave a ‘sensational’ byte that they wanted to break on their channel. The accused should be arrested if evidence is found, but hounding them, falling over them for bytes is risking the lives of the people who were asked to attend interrogation. The outrage is so bad that it looks that people are ready to stone the family if found outside the house.
