With just ten days to go for the all-important assembly poll in Andhra Pradesh, the betting syndicates and punters have gone on overdrive. They are hedging their bets on the TDP defeat and the reports say that the amount runs into tens of crores. Heavy betting is being reported about high profile constituencies where key leaders are in the fray.
The Vijayawada police on Monday stumbled upon some suspicious persons working from some hotels. The police recovered laptops, cash worth Rs 40 lakh and several credit and debit cards. On inquiry, it turned out that the arrested persons were part of a betting syndicate operating simultaneously in Amaravati, Hyderabad and Warangal.
The seized documents showed that the punters had a list of up to 40 assembly seats, which they termed as AP hot seats. Districts like Kadapa, twin Godavari districts, Krishna and Guntur are considered A-listers. In the case of VIP constituencies, the bets are in the ratio of one is to 10.
